Should You Purchase A Fixer-Upper?

So many of us like to binge-watch a little bit of Fixer Upper, BUT the question is, is purchasing a “fixer-upper” right for you?

Renovating a home is not for the weary, and definitely not for everyone. It can be a lot of work. It can also be really fun and rewarding as well. Read on to see the pros and cons of renovating a home.

  1. You will literally build sweat equity! By putting in the hard work yourself and doing some DIY, you will be adding equity to your home.

  2. You have the ability to customize and personalize your home any way you like. You can add unique touches and make it your own.

  3. Not everyone can get pre-approved for their dream home, so purchasing a home that needs to be renovated is a great way to become a homeowner without blowing your budget.

  1. You will have to put in your time and do the hard work to make your visions a reality. It can be lots of fun to browse Pinterest for inspiration, but be sure to be honest with yourself about if you can actually complete those projects.

  2. Your home won’t necessarily be “move-in ready”. You will have to be very patient. The finished product could take anywhere from weeks, to months, to even years. Be realistic as to what your budget and time will allow.
